chron·ic pro·gress·ive ex·ter·nal oph·thal·mo·ple·gi·a (CPEO),

a specific type of slowly worsening weakness of the ocular muscles, usually associated with a pigmentary retinopathy. See: Kearns-Sayre syndrome, oculopharyngeal dystrophy.
